MAK Galerie I Avenue Matignon – Paris

A family business established in the “Golden Triangle” since the 1950s

26-30 avenue Matignon in 1965 No. 26 adjoins Maison Dior at 30, which opened the Baby Dior boutique at 28 in 1967 and 26 in 2007.

Marc-Arthur Kohn was born into the art world.

His mother, Angela Kohn-Bonaglia, was a modern art dealer based at 26 avenue Montaigne in Paris. Specializing in the École de Paris, she was a key player in the Maurice Utrillo trade. She rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest professionals and collectors of her time.
Marc-Arthur Kohn, valedictorian of the École du Louvre Class of 1973, was destined for a career as a curator. In the end, he chose to become an auctioneer. He practiced this fine profession for 49 years, first in the Ain region for 20 years, then in Paris from 1994 onwards.

Throughout his long career, he has worked internationally. He will hold the second gavel in Monaco, after Me Étienne Ader, with one of the world’s finest collections of Limoges champlevé enamels.

In Geneva, he will mark his arrival with an exceptional sale at the Musée du Petit Palais, run by the renowned collector Oscar Ghez. For over 15 years, he will be at the helm of auctions of modern paintings in Switzerland.

In 1994, a Compagnie de Paris, under the presidency of Joël Millon, offered him the chance to take over a Parisian law firm, which he would keep until his retirement in December 2022.

In 2010, Marc-Arthur Kohn moved to 24 avenue Matignon.

The place is steeped in history. The name André Arbus is engraved in letters above the gallery’s display windows. The famous decorator opened an office here in the 1930s. Then came the prestigious Galerie Michel Meyer, an 18th-century antique dealer, followed by the “Espace Marc-Arthur Kohn”.

Marc-Arthur Kohn has risen to the challenge of maintaining the high quality of the furniture in this world-renowned venue, while continuing to sell modern and contemporary paintings.

In 2023, the company was transformed. Valérie Kohn becomes president of M.A.K. Galerie.
